Position: Program Associate, Jewish Education Program

Location: US Based Home Office; West Coast Preferred

*Candidate would preferably be based in our LA or Bay Area office. We would consider strong candidates from other regions of the country.

Facing History and Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to bigotry and hate. Facing History’s educational content is informed by a unique pedagogical model that helps students explore questions of identity, human behavior, prejudice, and civic responsibility, and make the essential connection between history and the moral choices they confront in their own lives today. We currently apply this model to explore case studies of pivotal historical moments such as the Holocaust and the Reconstruction Era following the American Civil War, as well as rich works of literature such as Brown Girl Dreaming. Facing History increasingly works with whole schools and districts to spur transformation in adult mindset, pedagogical practices, and school culture, building on the pillars of Social Emotional Learning, Equity, and Civic Engagement.

Position description:

Working as a member of Facing History’s Program team, the Program Associate‘s primary responsibility is delivering Facing History program services in Jewish educational settings, including: coaching and outreach to teachers implementing FH's core case study, Holocaust and Human Behavior and other case studies which may include Reconstruction, Civil Rights, To Kill a Mockingbird; co-facilitating professional development workshops and summer seminars; maintaining database documentation of our relationships with schools and teachers; and helping to manage various projects.

This position requires significant travel that could constitute up to 40% of the position’s responsibilities.
